About
This dual certificate program allows the students to receive instruction in asana, pranayama and meditation.
You receive both a certificate in Hatha Yoga from Inland College of Yoga, a 200hr. Yoga Alliance registered school, and a certificate from the Purab Paschim Institute in Indian culture and philosophy. This program is the first in this field. It combines ashtanga vinyasa yoga (Hatha yoga) with Indian culture and philosophy. The additional certificate is important because when you travel in India, walk on her streets, and eat her food, you become part of her world. You leave with a deeper understanding of the culture and philosophy that spawned yoga.
You stay in a double occupancy acommodation (singles extra) and attend classes at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh, Uttaranchal, India, home of the International Yoga Festival. This is the largest and most well-known ashram on the Ganges. All meals, lodging, and training manuals will be provided. You participate as you like in the evening Aarti Ceremonies on the banks of the Ganges. There is a cultural tour day to the Holy City of Haridwar and the famous temples, as well as another day tour for the festival of Holi. The Ashram is very clean, and is a sanctuary. There are gardens to meditate in, benches to sit on and smell Jasmine in bloom. The morning prayers can be heard in the distance, and the sound of the Ganges is everywhere. It has been said that in times of uncertainty, if you sit by the river, your path will be clear.
Our training will be challenging, but flexible. We understand that India is India, things happen. Nothing is ever set in stone. Be prepared to practice (as your body allows), and be prepared to listen (as your mind allows). Days begin with asana practice and end with the Aarti ceremony. Most days are 8-10 hours long. There are times to rest, sightsee, and study. We train 2 or 3 days on and one day off. This will allow you to adjust to the energy you feel. The Himalayas are powerful, you are at the feet of the Himalayas, the foothills. You are also in a very sacred place in the ashram, everyday is a time of worship and gratitude for life. Surrounding the ashram are small shop lined streets where cows, sadhus, shopkeepers and tourists share the daily activites. This also takes some getting used to, India's pace is very fast.
