A 200 Hr Yoga Alliance teaching certification in the Viniyoga style of Hatha provides an unequalled foundation for further work in yoga theraputics. To be able to experience this in an immersion setting deep in heart of yoga's source in Rishekesh, India is a rare opportunity - one that does not come every day. It brings together the material and spiritual roots of this practice that we love. For some it is the opportunity of a lifetime.

The purpose of this class is to train those who desire it in the core values and practices of the style of yoga that has come to be known as Viniyoga. What sets Viniyoga apart from Iyengar, Ashantga, Bikram and other styles are the practices of:

moving into and out of a posture before staying,
adapting postures to best meet the needs of the student,
linking breath and movement,
presenting the asanas in an order or sequence that prepares, compensates, and returns the body and mind to a state of comfort, balance and strength

The primary focus of the training will support these distinctive qualities by working toward a thorough understanding of core asanas and how to adapt them; developing observational skills to begin to see individual student needs; developing understanding of and skill in using breath to support asana, concentration, and meditation and realizing, through instruction and experience, the key role that proper sequencing plays in the creation of a safe and yogic experience for each student.

Secondarily, to support the above training, instruction will be given in The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita, the ethical issues that are important to yoga teachers, anatomy and physiology, and the history and culture of yoga in India. Viniyoga is a term given to this style of yoga by students of T K V Desikachar who asserts that he learned this, in part, from his father, Sri T Krisnamacharya. Gary Kraftsow was a student of T V K Desikachar and trained Aubrey Jackson in Viniyoga. Aubrey is certified at the 500 hr level by Yoga Alliance and has overseen the preparation of this training program. Tracy Weber has also been trained by Gary Kraftsow and Certified by Yoga Alliance at the 500 hr level and taught both John Wilson and Jessa Tarbert who are certified at the 200 hr level by Yoga Alliance and who have been teaching this style of yoga in the Seattle, WA area since 2005.

Alex O' Malley teaches in USA, Germany, Australia and now in India. We will also be adding another teacher from Rishikesh, India. Both teachers will bring their unique style and passion together to combine Eastern and Western teaching styles. There is a difference. Often in the USA and many European countries asana alignment, anatomy, posture structure, and themed classes are common and very popular styles. Eastern classes tend to focus more on awareness in mediation and relaxation. We want to combine India's sensitivity to awareness and energetic exchange with the West's physical understanding. Dr. Ganesh Rao has been teaching and studying Yoga, meditation and Indian philosophy for many years throughout India, even bringing it to professional athletes to help them improve their concentration and focus abilities. Bhuvneshwari Makharia leads meditation and pranayama trainings for the medical communities worldwide. Her goal is physical and mental clarity and well-being. They are part of the The Purab Paschim Institute and will be offering the certificate in Indian Culture and Philosophy.
